Introduction: The umbilical cord, the main component that intervenes in gas and nutritional exchange, from the placenta to the fetus, in addition it has to have an optimal oxygenation for proper development, the presence of the umbilical cord around the neck and chest of the fetus was considered as a risk to fetal life. The work’s objective is: To identify the simple umbilical cord’s
circular characteristics in the neonates neck who were born by eutocic birth in a first-level care service. Methodology: The work is quantitative, descriptive, transversal and retrospective. The sample was consisted by 506 neonates who were born by eutocic
birth. Results: from 506 newborns, 37.5% had a circular neck cord, 48% women and 52% men. In relation to birth weight: under 3%, overweight 4% and normal 93%. And with the mother’s gestation number it was found; 20% primary pregnancy, 36% second pregnancy and 44% multi-pregnancy. Discussion: The circular cord frequency in this study population is high in relation to others, being frequent; in male neonates, multigesta and secondary pregnancy. No marked differences between the newborns weight. No association with adverse perinatal outcomes is found.
