Parks contaminated with Giardia lamblia by dog feces, a possible zoonosis

Introduction: The parks are contaminated by dog feces and people have contact with parasitic forms in the grass areas, the present work’s objective was to determine the presence of Giardia lamblia in dogs feces samples collected in Cobabamba’s city parks. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out in 4 Cochabamba’s parks; Lincoln, Demetrio Canelas, Ex Comatientes, and La Torre from February to May 2019, the study population consisted of 107 dogs feces samples and subsequently they were processed by the simple direct smear method. Results: 56% no parasites were observed, 29% other parasites and 15% were identified with Giardia lamblia cysts. Discussion: Cochabamba’ s parks are contaminated with Giardia lamblia. Being an important source of zoonosis, which correlates with data from studies that report high raes of giardiasis in children.
