Abstract

Introduction: Self-care as a strategy to prevent and promote healthy behaviors during pregnancy is essential because the mother-baby at this stage requires comprehensive management to avoid risks and complications. Additionally, achieving autonomy and meeting energy needs while considering factors specific to pregnancy is crucial. In this context, the study aimed to establish self-care practices and the quality of healthy eating among pregnant women attending the Colcapirhua Integral Health Center. Methodology: This quantitative study involved 58 pregnant women who completed a questionnaire covering 10 variables. Each variable was scored from 0 to 10. Results: The most frequent age group was between 19 and 21 years old (29.3%). Of the participants, 53.3% reported feeling happy about their pregnancy, 55.2% felt supported by family or partners, 93.1% did not smoke, 79.3% did not consume alcoholic beverages, and 43.1% engaged in daily prenatal stimulation at home. The average healthy eating index was 62 points. Discussion: In contrast to studies from other regions, the average index is similar; however, there are variations in food groups. Therefore, comprehensive management guidelines should emphasize quality nutrition, which promotes healthy baby development and enhances maternal well-being.
